Have you ever wondered what a day up at the Yakutat Lodge is like?

Have you wondered what time your day starts, what the menu is like, how long you are on the river or ocean for, what the travel time is to the fishing holes? Well, wonder no more. This blog is here to answer all your questions. If you have others be sure to contact fish@yakutatlodge.wpengine.com for all the answers and booking inquiries.

What time do you wake up?

Typically, the clients are asked to be at the lodge at 6:00 am to have breakfast – so they would be waking up around 5:00 am.

Do you have breakfast at the lodge restaurant? What is it usually?

Yes, we have a full breakfast menu running from 6:00 am – 11:00 am. There is always a daily special – which is different each day. Typical breakfast is choice of Bacon, Sausage, or Ham with Eggs, Toast and Hash Browns

How long is the drive to the river?

The drive from the lodge to 9-mile bridge (the boat launch) is about 13 miles and takes around 30 minutes to drive there.

Do you have lunch while at the river? What is it?

We supply sack lunches for all of our clients – guided or non-guided. The lunches are a cold meat sandwich, bag of chips, cookie/dessert, and a bottle of water. We can make special lunches for anyone with a dietary needs. They can pick up their lunches at breakfast from the morning bartender.

How long are you fishing for?

The average fishing day is about 8 hours long but depends on water levels and fishing.  Clients can ask to come in early if they are done fishing.  There is not an exact time that all clients have to be off of the river.

Do you float downstream or stay in one spot?

It is a 14-mile float down the Situk River. The guides will stop in certain spots/holes and fish there a for awhile and then move on to the next spot/hole.

How many fish can you bring back to the lodge with you?

The fishing limits change with each species of fish and will also depend on how many fish have entered the river system. So that is something that can be answered when you book.

What time does dinner start?

We start serving appetizers at 4:00 pm and our full menu is available at 5:00 pm. The kitchen is open until 10:00 pm and the bar is open until 10:00 pm or later depending on what guests are sticking around.

What are the evenings like at the lodge? Is there a bar?

The same thing goes with this, depends on the time of the year and how many clients we have checked in. I would say that most clients will eat between 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm, then sit around and have a few drinks while exchanging fishing stories and comparing photos from their day. I guess they typically will go back to their rooms/cabins around 8:30 pm – 9:00 pm. This is just an average. There are no required times for clients to eat, drink, and head to their rooms.
