Yakutat Fishing Report 2026

2026 came in swinging on the Situk, and it has not let up since.

Yakutat Fishing Report 2026 conditions are shaping up to be one for the books, but before you hit the water, take a few minutes to review the current Alaska Department of Fish and Game regulations for the Yakutat Management Area. Regs can shift with emergency orders, and things like the Upper Situk spawning closure and lingcod season timing are details worth knowing before you make your first cast. Check the ADF&G website for the latest updates and any advisory announcements specific to the 2026 season.

Steelhead Dreams Come True

June 8, 2026

The smelt wrapped up their push upriver in mid-April right on cue. A colder-than-usual river slowed the early push slightly. Low water made boat travel tricky and left fish skittish in the clear, slow-moving flows. Then the rain arrived. Water levels climbed, and just like that the Situk flipped a switch. Anglers started spotting groups of fish throughout the river. What began as a trickle turned into a steady, fishable push of fresh chrome.

By early May, the river was doing what it does best. Steelhead kept entering in good numbers right when most people were calling it a season. Water levels sat right in the sweet spot for both boat and wade fishing. Bent rods, big smiles, and stories worth keeping. The Situk holds the title of Alaska’s largest steelhead fishery, producing nearly half of the state’s annual steelhead catch. During peak migrations, guided anglers can hit ten fish or more in a single day. This spring has delivered on that reputation.

Saltwater Success

Out on the water, the saltwater charters have kept pace. Boats have been heading out daily targeting halibut, lingcod, and rockfish in the Gulf of Alaska. Nice halibut are coming over the rails, and the action figures to improve as the season builds.

The lodge still has a solid window of opportunity through late May and into early June, with limited spots remaining. This year it pays to fish the late shoulder season. The fish are still moving, the water is right, and the Situk is not done yet.
