Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | April 23, 2019

The 2019 season has started with a bang!

The river is producing mass amounts of Steelhead all throughout the River system. The low water has given way to rain and snow, bringing those water levels back up to good fishable levels. The weather has kept the campers away and the main push of Spring fish has begun. Fresh spring fish are plentiful!

Call and book now before they’re all gone. Weather Forecasts are looking promising with rain and snow giving way to warmer weather and sunny skies into the weekend. Saltwater fishing is picking up with some good reports on Halibut and there are some Kings being caught on a daily basis. With the better weather it should only get better. Stop on in and say Hi, grab a beer and a burger. Tight Lines.

Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | September 24, 2018

River fishing continues to be tough due to the low water and sunny skies. Rain is forecast for this week and we are keeping our fingers crossed that it will be enough to raise the water levels. Click here to view the weather forecast.

Taiwah Creek and the Lost River are producing fish on the incoming tides, but not a super hot bite. The ocean fishing is still producing good numbers of halibut and some silver salmon also. Ling Cod and rockfish are also still being caught in decent numbers.

Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | September 9, 2018

The weather is absolutely beautiful, but that is creating a low clear water scenario that is making the river fishing a little more difficult than usual. Large numbers of fish are arriving on every tide and the fishing seems to be best on those fresh fish entering the system before they are trapped in the low water upriver. With no significant rain in the immediate forecast, the fishing will continue to more difficult, but working for the fish sometimes is more rewarding for the fisherman.
Ocean fishing has been great. Large halibut and good numbers of Silver Salmon are still being caught on a daily basis, along with rockfish and Lingcod. Flat-water conditions have made the ocean the place to be the last couple weeks and look to continue for the rest of the month.

Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | September 3, 2018

It doesn’t get better than this!

Freshwater Fishing
Silver salmon have filled up the Situk River and continue to come in with every incoming tide. Fishing has been really good for about a month now. All the guides are in full swing and clients are coming back with sore arms.

Saltwater Fishing
Ocean fishing has also been spectacular for halibut and rockfish, with many 100 lb halibut caught this season, and a couple in the 200 lb range. Weather could not be better, with sunny skies for the next 10 days it’s going to be a great time to be in Yakutat fishing. We are excited to show our guests a great time. Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | June 19, 2018

All the Steelhead have now vacated the river for the arrival of the Sockeye run.
Although it’s been a slow start for the Sockeye, last night we had our first decent push over the weir. We have been catching a few in the lower end now for about a week, but they were not migrating up the river, but with a good amount of rain the last couple of days the fish seem to be on the move. We’re looking forward to a great Sockeye season this year.
Bookings still available for the 2018 season and we would love to host you.

Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | May 25, 2018

Steelhead season is winding down. It was a great success and I wish to thank all of the Yakutat lodge guests that made it up fish with us this season.
There is still some fresh Steelhead coming in on the tides, but significantly less than a couple weeks ago, so fishing has slowed, but we are still getting decent numbers hooked up.
We are gearing up for the start of Sockeye season and excited and waiting to see the first bunch come in.
We have openings for June and July still if you want to come catch some of the most explosive fish in Alaska. To book contact fish@yakutatlodge.com or call 1-800-YAKUTAT (925-8828).

Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | May 9, 2018

The 2018 Yakutat fishing season has started off great!! Our guests are enjoying saltwater and freshwater fishing daily.

Steelhead season is still in full swing. Water has been high due to recent rains,  but is now on the drop and fishing is picking up again.  Steelhead should continue to arrive on every tide change for the next couple weeks.

We have openings available through may and the fishing should continue to be good throughout the month.

Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | September 12, 2017

Silver Season on the river is in full swing. The fishing is stupid good. Thousands of Silvers entered the system this week and should continue for the several weeks straight. Flies, Jigs, and Spinners are very effective for the aggressive fresh Silvers. All 14 miles of the river is full of fish now and the guides are reporting 40 to 75 fish landed per boat each day.
Ocean conditions remain good for Halibut and Silvers. Although the Silver fishing is slowing down, there are still plenty of residual fish swimming around out there.

The weather has been wet, but not too cold yet. Continue reading “Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | September 12, 2017”

Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | August 25, 2017

Water levels have finally risen from the recent rains and it’s calling for more rain to come, which will keep the river in good shape for the kick off to Silver Season.

The number of Pink Salmon have started to decrease as the Silver numbers are increasing on every tide.

Silver Salmon and Halibut fishing have continued to be exceptional in the bay.

Yakutat Lodge Fishing Report | August 15, 2017

Ocean fishing for Silvers is still going strong with limits being reached on a daily basis, halibut fishing remains strong, with many fish over a hundred pounds this week.

The river is full of Pink Salmon, about 400,000 to be exact. Silver Salmon are starting to show up in the river on every incoming tide, not in big numbers yet, but that could change any day now. This next 6 weeks will be the time when the most amount of fish are present in the system, and you have the chance at 50 to 100 fish to the boat days. (Mostly Pinks).
